Did you know that in 2006 it was found that 58.4% of all American homes subscribed to some form of cable television? That's roughly 154 million people, so with an average $30 per household monthly spend on cable television this means that around $46 billion is spent monthly and $552 billion is spent yearly on what has apparently become an "essential luxury" in households around the globe. Though this means that 41.6% of homes in America do not subscribe to any form of satellite or cable television.

Why?

There are various reasons which might account for the unwillingness of consumers to subscribe to Cable Television.

  • Uninterested, you might be totally uninterested by the whole prospect of a few extra Television channels, occasionally because you don't watch Television that often or even because you don't have one.
  • Funds, it isn't uncommon for people to spend less during a recession as families try to find ways to reduce their monthly outgoings so they can maintain a good standard of living for themselves and their families. Some people may consider Cable Television to be an unnecessary luxury and something that they could cut back on, hence saving on the monthly payment.
